The Two Types of Material
Natural: this basically means that the material has been grown or will appear in the environment.
Synthetic: this basically means it have been chemically made—the majority of plastics are made chemically through the cracking process shown here. |
What Do You Need For The Exam?
For each material section you need to know;
1) How the material is converted from raw material to stock form
2) The types of stock form
3) The manufacturing processes
4) The types of materials available, their properties and their application
5) The finishing processes for that material
You need to know everything about compliant materials, new materials and smart materials. You can then choose to specialize in either Timbers or Plastics. To be the best prepared you should know all the above points for all the sections.
