Task Analysis
Description: in this page you analyse the design brief and write down your first thoughts/questions about the project.
What to include: use your analysis tools - MAD FEETS QC as the starter legs of your spider diagram, then start to add your own areas that you need to think about - remember these are just your first ideas, there are no right or wrong answers. Resources: use Popplet or Bubbl to create your mind map quickly |
Product Analysis
Description: looking at existing products and analysing what makes a good product and where improvements could be made.
What to include: start looking at two different products, one from the internet (IKEA is good place to start) and one in real life. Use your analysis tools to discuss where the good/bad points are and why they would or wouldn't appeal to your target market. Make sure you use your own opinions and write why the point you have made is correct or important. |
Theme Research
Description: looking at a key issue from your design brief and exploring how you could meet it.
What to include: this page could be presented like a mood board or could be a gathering of information, for example; if you were themeing your design on the Art Deco design movement you could gather appropriate images of furniture, patterns etc that fit with the design movement. |
Target Market Research
Description: looking at the exact type of people you would be aiming your designs at.
What to include: writing a questionnaire to gather the thoughts and opinions of your Target Market, you could either tally the results or put them into pie charts, you should then analyse the results and discuss what this means for your products and the impact it would have. For example - if most people prefer Oak as a material - how would this impact on the cost? |
Materials Research
Construction Techniques
Research Analysis
Description: looking at all the research you have done into the project so far and analysing the impact of each.
What to include: you could do this by adding a box on the bottom of each page or to save room do it on a separate page. Look at each page individually, what is the impact from what you have found out, e.g. if most Art Deco products use glass, how will you include glass in your project? |
Specification
Description: a list of things your final product must, should or could include.
What to include: use your analysis tools - MAD FEETS QC - as the starting point, for each section write what your product must, should or could include and why you would use them, e.g. Aesthetics, the aesthetics of my product must fit with the Art Deco design movement, for this reason I will use geometric shapes and patterns. |
